‘Peter Pan Syndrome’ affects people who do not feel unable or want to grow up These are people with the body of an adult but the mind of a child. They don’t know how to or don’t want to stop being children and start taking grownup responsibilities, communication skills, being mothers/fathers or husbands/wives.
The syndrome is not currently considered a psychopathology. However, an
increasingly larger number of adults are presenting emotionally immature behaviors in Western society. They are unable to grow up and take on adult responsibilities, and even dress up and enjoy themselves as teenagers when they are over 30 years old.
Evaluation and Psychological Treatment of the University of Granada and an expert in emotional disorders warns that the over protection of parents can lead children to develop the Peter Pan Syndrome, given it usually affects dependent people who have been overprotected by their families and haven’t developed the necessary skills to confront life. The Peter Pans of society see the adult world as very problematic and glorify adolescence, which is why they want to stay in that state of privilege.
Peter Pan Syndrome can affect both sexes, but it appears more often among men. Some characteristics of the disorder are the inability of individuals to take on responsibilities, excessive care about the way they look and personal well-being, to commit themselves or to keep promises, , lack of mature communication skills, and their lack of self-confidence even though they don’t seem to show it and actually come across as exactly the opposite.
These people are usually scared of loneliness, which is why they try to surround themselves with people who can meet their needs. They become anxious when they are evaluated by their work colleagues or their superiors, given they are completely intolerant towards any criticism and become really defensive when faced with problems, criticism, or relationship issues. Sometimes they can have serious adaptation problems at work or in personal relationships.
Another characteristic of people suffering from the ‘Peter Pan Syndrome’ is that they are constantly changing partners and looking for younger ones. Whenever the relationship starts to ask for a high level of responsibility and commitment, they become afraid, start making up or twisting issues, and break it up. Relationships with younger women have the advantage of being able to live by the day without any worries, and they also involve less future plans, therefore less responsibilities.
Psychologist Dan Kiley defined ‘Peter Pan Syndrome’ in 1983, also used the term ‘Wendy Syndrome’ to describe women who act like mothers with their partners or people close to them. Wendy is the woman behind Peter Pan. There must be someone who deals with the things Peter Pan doesn't do in order for Peter Pan to exist.
Wendy makes every decision and takes on the responsibilities of her partner, thus justifying his unreliability. We can find Wendy people even within the immediate family, the overprotecting mothers.
The biggest disadvantage of both disorders (Peter Pan /Wendy Syndromes) is usually that the person who suffers from them doesn't feel as though they are part of the problem, they are not aware of it. Robles points out that the only solution for this disease is the right psychological treatment, not only centered on the person who suffers from the disorder but also on his/her partner and family.

Texting is currently one of the most instant forms of communication. While texting might be the perfect platform to say a quick hi,there are some things to watch out for in a texting relationship with your partner.
Texting Too Much
If your partner texts too much, it's not only unnecessary, but irritating. Keeping in touch with your significant other throughout the day can be thoughtful, but constant contact by text is probably over-doing it. Consider talking to your partner about giving you a little bit of space. If they’re using texting messaging to monitor everywhere you go, that is a warning sign of abuse.
Sexting
Even if you trust that your partner will be the only one to ever see the pictures, you can never guarantee that the pictures won’t end up on someone else’s phone or online. No matter how much your partner pressures you, remember you should never have to do anything you aren’t comfortable with.
Sexting can have legal consequences. Any nude photos or video of someone under 18 could be considered child pornography. Even if whoever sent the image did so willingly, the recipient can still get in a lot of trouble.
Reading Someone Else’s Texts
Healthy relationships are built on trust and not jealousy. You have the right to privacy and the ability to talk to whomever you like. You may want to explain to your partner that you have nothing to hide, but don’t like them going through your phone or deciding who your friends are. If your partner refuses to change, you could be in an unhealthy relationship.
Threats over Text
Threats over text should be taken seriously and try not to write threats off as angry venting. Keep track of threatening texts and think about talking to someone you trust about what is happening. Being in a violent relationship is dangerous and you should not go through it alone.
What Can I Do?
Here are tips to keep you safe and healthy:
- It is ok to turn off your phone. Just be sure your parent or guardian knows how to contact you in an emergency.
- Do not answer calls from unknown or blocked numbers. Your abuser can easily call you from another line if they suspect you are avoiding them.
- Don’t respond to hostile, harassing, abusive or inappropriate texts or messages. Responding can encourage the person who sent the message to continue to harass and will not get them to stop. Your messages might also get you in trouble and make it harder to get a restraining order or file a criminal report.
- Save or document troublesome texts as you may need them later for evidence in case you file a criminal report or ask for a restraining order.
- Many phone companies can block up to ten numbers from texting or calling you.
- If you are in or coming out of a dangerous relationship, avoid using any form of technology to contact your abuser. It can be dangerous and may be used against you in the future.
- It may seem extreme, but if the abuse and harassment doesn't stop, changing your phone number may be your best option.
If you are feeling threatened or suffocated by your partner’s constant calls or texts, it may be a sign that you are in an unhealthy and potentially abusive relationship. When your partner says or does things that causes fear, lowers your self-esteem or manipulates you, it is called verbal or emotional abuse. You have the right to be in a safe and healthy relationship free from all types of abuse.

A New Jersey father took drastic measures to find out why his autistic son was getting in trouble at school.
After hearing complaints that his son was acting up at school, Stuart Chaifetz decided to put a wire on his son to see exactly what was going on and triggering his son to act out so he could address the problem.
He was surprised to find that the teachers were bullying the students. What he heard on audio was disgusting, vile, and an absolute disrespect and bullying of his son according to Mr. Chaifetz.
In the recordings the teachers talking about alcohol and calling the kids names. One of the kids was even threatened. The angry father turned the tapes over to the school district. A teacher was fired and another was reassigned. When asked, the school district would not give any comments regarding the recordings. Watch the Father's YouTube video of his recordings:

Prenatal care does not begin the moment the diagnosis of pregnancy is established, rather it can begin months prior to conception. This type of care is often also known as pre-conception care.
This time is important, because it allows the body to prepare itself for pregnancy nutritionally and with antibodies and cells which defend against infection in a way that is necessary to ensure good formation and development of the baby.
Therefore, when you have the chance to plan the pregnancy ahead of time, it is a good idea to know the steps you can take and the changes you can make to your lifestyle that can help avoid complications. Some of these measures are certain vaccinations and may not be administered once the diagnosis of pregnancy is established. Other measures, such as weight loss or control of blood pressure, will require time to be put into effect.
Pre-conception care it is worthwhile to:
- Monitor medical conditions, for example in cases of women with diabetes, hypertension, lupus,& rheumatoid arthritis it is very important to discuss the risks and benefits of each treatment during pregnancy.
- Test for sexually transmitted diseases
- Blood tests for the detection of: German measles is an illness - if contracted during pregnancy, can be associated with fetal malformation. It is recommended to find out if the patient has had German measles prior to the pregnancy. Cases in which the results are negative, it is essential to offer the vaccine in the months prior to conception. Although the vaccine has not been shown to produce negative effects when it is given to women who did not know that they were pregnant, in theory there are certain risks, and for this reason the vaccine is not recommended during pregnancy.
- Test for the detection of HIV and Hepatitis.
- Stop the use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs, as all of these substances have been associated with risks to the baby.
- Complete immunization panels, specifically vaccinations for tetanus, chicken pox and hepatitis B
During pregnancy,
prenatal care is directed toward:
- The evaluation and monitoring of the of health of the mother and baby.
- An early and accurate estimate of the gestational age of the baby and the probable delivery date.
- The identification and treatment in a timely manner of women who are at risk for having complications such as women with diabetes, thyroid problems, or hypertension
To meet these objectives, during
prenatal consultations it is recommended that you carry out the following series of exams:
Hematic Biometry- Detects women with different levels of anemia so they may receive timely treatment.
Blood type & Rh factor: this permits the identification of patients that have problems of blood incompatibility with the baby, especially if there is an existing prior history.
Tests for antibodies.
Pap smear identify those patients with pre-cancerous lesions in the cervix and to detect sexually transmitted diseases
Routine urine analysis helps identification of patients with recurrent urinary tract infections that may lead to premature birth and other complications. This also detects protein in the urine that may be an indicate of high blood pressure during pregnancy.
Glucose tolerance test must be given to all pregnant women to detect gestational diabetes.
Ultrasound to establish gestational age and corroborate fetal cardiac activity of the fetus. Ultrasound is repeated approximately every 2 months during the first months of pregnancy to monitor the normal development of the fetus.
Finally, it is important to note that work and exercise are not contradicting during pregnancy.

International Journal of Cancer ~ Danish researchers published a new study, showing many cases with cancer patients, particularly those with lung cancer, discovered they had a tumor after being referred for psychiatric care. It is an important finding because it gives us a new way to look at one of the hot issues in cancer treatment right now, the problem of lung cancer going undiagnosed until it's advanced and nearly impossible to cure.
The study followed 4,320,623 people in Denmark for 10 years and showed that when people ages 50 to 64 were referred to a psychiatrist for the first time in their lives, the reason often turned out to be an undetected malignancy.
The overall cancer incidence was highest in people over 50 years of age admitted with a first-time mood disorder and one out of 54 patients turned out to have a malignant cancer diagnosed within the first year. Among those 50 to 64, the overall incidence of cancer was increased almost four times, and the incidence of brain tumors was increased 37 times.
The most common kind is small celled and often isn't diagnosed until it's Stage 3 or 4. A common site for this type of lung cancer to metastasize, or spread, is to the brain.
What other early signs should you watch for ?
- Deep chest pain when cough or laugh
- Shortness of breath/wheezing
- Reddened, rust-colored or bloody phlegm
- Persistent cough or hoarseness
- Getting recurrent infections, like pneumonia or bronchitis
- Thickened, painful fingertips (caused by abnormal bone growth)
- Weight loss or lack of appetite
- Mood swings, depression or lethargy
- Abnormal breast growth in men
- Sudden onset of irritability, aggression and temper;
Many of these symptoms sound vague and could indicate a number of other conditions or other cancers. But trust your instinct and if you or someone you love is feeling or behaving in a way that's out of character, see the doctor about it. In the case of lung cancer, this is particularly important for anyone with a history of smoking.

The leading cause of most vehicle crashes is driver distractions. 80% of crashes and 65 % of almost accidents involve some form of driver distraction, according to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
There is a significant increase in distracted driving such as texting & talking on cellphones in recent years.
What Is Distracted Driving?
Common activities that distract drivers include:
- Texting & talking on a cellphone
- Reading, including maps
- Grooming (applying makeup, shaving, etc.)
- Eating and drinking
- Using a navigation system
- Adjusting a radio, CD player or MP3 player
- Reaching for an object inside the vehicle
- Talking to passengers
- Using a laptop
- Looking at an object or event outside of the vehicle
Dangerous distractions include any action that takes your eyes off the road, mind off the road, or hands off the steering wheel. Many actions involve more than one of these types of distraction. Drivers who engage more frequently in distracted driving are more likely to be involved in a vehicle crash.
Talking and Texting
Distraction caused by texting and talking on cellphones accounts for 28% of all accidents. Because text messaging requires taking your eyes, hands and mind off the road, it is by far the most dangerous distraction. Texting drivers are 23 times more likely to get involved in a crash. Sending or receiving a text takes a driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. When driving at 55 miles per hour, that is the equivalent of driving blind for the length of an entire football field.
Talking on a cellphone, even on a hands-free device, saps the brain of 39 % of the energy it would ordinarily devote to safe driving. Even when they’re looking at the road, drivers talking on cellphones fail to notice up to 50% of the information in their driving environment.
What Can You Do to Stay Safe?
Avoid these dangerous distractions and stay focused on your driving. You can significantly reduce your chances of having an accident by turning off your cellphone. And if you’re a passenger, help your driver avoid distractions.
Encourage your friends and loved ones to educate themselves about distracted driving and take the danger seriously.

If you know someone that has a problem with alcohol, you are not alone. 3 out of 10 adults drink more than the low-risk limit.
Drinking in moderation is generally safe meaning no more than 1 drink per day for women and no more than 2 drinks per day for men.
A standard drink is any drink that contains 0.6 ounces (or 1.2 tablespoons) of pure alcohol. Generally, this amount of pure alcohol is found in:
- 12 ounces of regular beer or wine cooler
- 8 ounces of malt liquor
- 5 ounces of wine
- 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits or liquor (e.g., gin, rum, vodka, whiskey)
How Do You Know if you or someone has a problem with Alcohol?
Drinking is a problem if it causes trouble with a person's health, relationships, work or school, social activities, or in how a person thinks. Warning signs of a possible problem include:
- Drinking on a recurring basis (daily, weekends or in binges)
- The need for more alcohol to produce an effect
- Failed attempts to stop
- Physical and/or emotional craving
- Withdrawal symptoms
Not everyone who has problems with alcohol is an alcoholic. You don’t have to be an alcoholic to suffer serious effects from drinking.
Alcohol abuse is any pattern of drinking that negatively impacts your life. Long-term abuse can turn into dependence or alcoholism a chronic disease. The symptoms of alcohol abuse or dependence include:
- Failure to fulfill responsibilities at work, school or home
- Drinking while driving or operating machinery
- Legal problems related to alcohol, such as being arrested for drinking while driving or physically hurting someone while drunk
- Continue drinking despite ongoing physical, psychological, or interpersonal problems that are caused or worsened by drinking
- The inability to restrict or limit drinking
What Are the Health Risks?
Alcohol abuse/dependency can lead to heart failure, brain damage, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, and stroke. It can also increase other risks such as certain cancers, birth defects, and injuries or death from car crashes.

Parents put their kids’ safety first from installing baby gates to fastening bike helmets and seat belts. Once kids hit adolescence, the risks can become less obvious. For example, When it comes to teen dating violence, many parents don’t know the risks and may not be able to offer the help their children need.
When parents recognize abuse, their attempts to intervene can be off-target and often go ignored. Parents & anyone else who knows a teen can learn about teen dating abuse and hear from teens themselves. From social media abuse, to controlling behavior, teens reveal what’s happening in their lives. Marjorie Gilberg, executive director of Break the Cycle, a leading national nonprofit organization addressing teen dating abuse, about what they should — and shouldn't — do if they suspect their teen is in an abusive relationship.
The Warning Signs:
- Isolation: Does your child have fewer friends than he/she did before getting involved with him or her or a new group of friends? This speaks to the isolation that an abusive teen imposes on a another. Isolate him/her first from friends, then from outside activities, and then family. She/he can then become emotionally dependent on the abuser, and find it difficult to leave.
- Emotional Changes: In the early infatuation stage of any relationship teens are often happy. Once the boy or girl becomes abusive, the teen begins feeling sad and desperate. She or he may cry more or want to be alone.
- Constant Communication: Does your daughter's boyfriend constantly call or text her, and she must call him back immediately? He might ask her where she is, what she's doing, who she's with, what time she'll be back and how many other boys she has spoken to. This also goes in reverse.
- Jealousy Issues: If your teen looks at or speaks casually with another teen, does he or she get upset? Did he or she tell her that he loved him/her early in the relationship? This is his "hook." Your daughter or son might find this romantic, but it could be another red flag for jealousy and issues with control.
- The Background: If your teen's friends or boyfriend or girlfriend come from a tragic home life, it could mean trouble. He or she might not be far behind in his or hers parent's footsteps if they use drugs or are abusive to him/her or each other.
- The Need to Impress: When he or she gives "advice" about her/his choice in friends, hairstyle, clothes or makeup, notice if your teen is following his/her every word. Your daughter is likely in complete denial and may be in fear of what he will do to her if she doesn't change.
- Making Excuses for Him: Your teen might stick-up for their actions, defending his or her words and actions. Don't let your teens denial force you to ignore your gut! He or she may have convinced your teen that she or he too sensitive when calls her names or told your teen "only kidding."
The reality is this is an issue that could affect anyone at any time. None of us are immune from it. Smart or not so smart, wealthy or not so wealthy, it doesn't matter what color you are or what you believe. This issue affects everyone.
Even if young people aren’t being abused themselves, chances are they know someone who is. According to surveys conducted by Liz Claiborne Inc. and the Family Violence Prevention Fund 80 % of teens reported knowing someone who has been a victim of controlling behaviors from a boyfriend or girlfriend. More than half of college women report knowing a friend who has experienced violent or abusive dating behavior.

Several studies show a strong link between both Hashimoto’s and Graves and gluten intolerance. The link is so well-established that researchers suggest all people with AITD be screened for gluten intolerance, and vice versa.
The molecular structure of gliadin, the protein portion of gluten, closely resembles that of the thyroid gland. When gliadin breaches the protective barrier of the gut, and enters the bloodstream, the immune system tags it for destruction. These antibodies to gliadin also cause the body to attack thyroid tissue. This means if you have AITD and you eat foods containing gluten, your immune system will attack your thyroid.
The immune response to gluten can last up to 6 months each time you eat it. This explains why it is critical to eliminate gluten completely from your diet if you have AITD. If you’re gluten intolerant, you have to be 100% gluten-free to prevent immune destruction of your thyroid.
So how do you find out if you’re gluten intolerant? Standard lab tests aren’t very accurate. They test for antibodies to gluten in the bloodstream. But antibodies in the blood will only be found in cases where the gut has become so permeable that gluten can pass through. This is a relatively advanced stage of disease. Blood tests will miss the many milder cases of gluten intolerance that haven’t yet progressed.
Stool analysis is far more sensitive, because it detects antibodies produced in the digestive tract that aren’t yet escaping into the bloodstream. It has found that up to 35% of Americans are gluten intolerant.
People with HLA DQ genes are more likely than the general population to have autoimmune disease, celiac disease and gluten intolerance. More than 80% of Americans have one of these gene types.
1 in 3 Americans are gluten intolerant, and that
8 in 10 are genetically predisposed to gluten intolerance. This is nothing short of a public health catastrophe in a nation where the #1 source of calories is refined flour. But while most are at least aware of the dangers of sugar, trans-fat and other unhealthy foods, fewer than 1 in 8 people with celiac disease are aware of their condition.
One reason gluten intolerance goes undetected in so many cases is that both doctors and patients mistakenly believe it only causes digestive problems. But gluten intolerance can also present with inflammation in the joints, skin, respiratory tract and brain without any obvious gut symptoms.
Hashmioto’s, the most common autoimmune thyroid condition.
Foods that contain gluten (both whole grains and flours) contain substances that inhibit nutrient absorption, damage our intestinal lining, and activate a potentially destructive autoimmune response. What’s more, there are no nutrients in gluten-containing foods that you can’t get more easily and efficiently from foods that don’t contain gluten.
The good news is that if you have AITD and are gluten intolerant removing gluten completely from your diet will dramatically improve your health. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
