Forget the midlife crisis , it's now hitting a decade earlier.
Thirty-something singles seeking therapy after reaching a fork in the road and reassessing their lives is on the rise.
Particularly women see 30 as a deadline to have a successful career, perfect husband and children. A phenomenon of clients aged 28-32 who were mainly single and despairing that their lives lack meaning. Some of these individuals were making big life changing decisions such as ditching highly paying jobs for more community minded vocations.
The growing trend is to delay marriage and children and now extends the shelf life of being single into the 30s, leaving many feeling unfulfilled and isolated.
People might live alone in a city studio, and live an isolated existence which consist of going to work then coming home, and doing activities like working out, gym, and watching DVDS or movies. In the past we got to know our neighbors and also may have had different generations of family around us so our lives were not as isolated.
Demographers say that many people, especially men, suffered from responsibility anxiety when they hit their thirties. They were footloose and fancy-free in their 20s, the indulged generation, then they find themselves staring down the barrel of a mortgage, commitment, career, and there's some anxiety.
Previous generations were quite attuned to responisiblity and they didn't know any different. Precious generations also did not push off commitment or have fear of marriage. But midlife is more likely viewed as 55 than 45 now and this is more of a milestone crisis.
