Medicare Supplements Are All the Same
A lot of people don’t realize that Medicare supplements are the same from health insurance company to health insurance company. What’s different is how much you pay.
It’s nice to know that Medicare supplements are predictable. Boring, but predictable, is usually a good thing if you happen to move around a lot. Being the same everywhere is great news when you want to pick-up extra coverage, but are not able to turn to private health care insurance carriers.
Being the same means being standardized by offering the same thing. Well, at least it takes any guesswork out of the equation. Each health care insurance company that offers Medicare plans in your area has the same networks. It doesn’t matter what insurance company you deal with when you go to buy Medicare plans. Well wait, there is one significant difference and that difference will make your bankbook sing hallelujah.
These plans are not the same when it comes to the pricing. The reason for this is that each insurance company, being a separate business and privately owned, sets their own prices. So you may find a startling difference between one company and another just by calling around and doing some work with your calculator.
The pricing differences for Medicare supplements isn’t a national secret, or even one that the insurance companies try to hide. They’re just doing business. The problem is that a lot of people really don’t like talking to insurance agents, so they don’t bother to call around. The point is though, if you took the time to call even just three agents and asked about prices, you would definitely save money.
So the bottom line is if you want a deal on health care coverage, be smart and talk to an agent who has a large pool of companies to work with. The more companies the agent deals with, the better the price of your premium. It’s just the law of averages, and ultimately your good fortune to find a price that suits your budget.
